Thirty students of the Kofi Annan International Peace Training Centre (KAIPTC) have graduated after a year’s course in conflict, peace and security.
They undertook courses in: Theories and Concepts of Conflict, Peace and Security and Comparative African Politics.
Others include Leadership, Concepts, Principles and Management, Contemporary and Emerging Security Issues, Legal Framework for Peace Support Operations, International Relations, and Good Governance.
Lieutenant General John Henry Smith, Minister of Defence, who represented Vice President, John Dramani Mahama, said he was delighted to see the KAIPTC grow from strength to strength, especially with the introduction of post graduate programmes.
He paid tribute to the Centre’s partners, staff and all stakeholders who had contributed to make the Centre’s Post Graduate Programme a success.
Air Vice Marshall Christian Dovlo, Commandant of the Centre, acknowledged the rigorous nature of the Master of Arts in Conflict, Peace and Security Course; and indicated that it had provided the Centre with an opportunity to produce a set of well drilled batch of graduates with the requisite expertise needed to resolve peace and security challenges in Africa.
Air Vice Marshall Dovlo paid tribute to partners that supported the building and equipping the structure which was a symbol of international cooperation in peace and security.
The second post graduate programme in Gender, Peace and Security was also inaugurated.
Fifty students from Ghana, Liberia, Nigeria and Ethiopia have been admitted to pursue the one-year Masters in Gender, Peace and Security programme.
The centre inaugurated a new library to support research, training and academic work.**
