Sunyani, Jan. 8, GNA - Some key personalities in Badu Traditional Area in Brong Ahafo have received threats on their lives for supporting the selection of Nsawkaw as the capital of the new Tain District. Nana Kwadwo Seinti, Regional Minister, said this at a meeting with chiefs and members of the interim management committee of the new district.

The Regional Minister expressed regret about the actions of the people of Badu led by the Krontihene, Nana Asare Boakye, whom he warned, would be held responsible for any breach of peace in the area.

''Badu is not an island and cannot decide which district it should belongs to, ''he said, referring to a recent resolution by the chiefs and people of Badu Traditional Area to remain with Wenchi District if Badu could not be made the capital of the new district.

Nana Seinti said the government's decision to create the Tain District out of Wenchi District with the capital at Nsawkaw is irrevocable and must therefore, be respected by all the chiefs and people in the area.

He said, though the President had the prerogative power to create a new district, he exercised the power in consultation with and according to a petition sent to him by the chiefs of Badu Traditional Area. The Regional Minister appealed to the chiefs and people of Badu to put the welfare of the entire district above parochial interests and rally behind the government to speed up the area's development.

Nana Boakye said the traditional council had sent a petition to the President against the citing of the capital at Nsawkaw.

He said the council is waiting patiently to hear from the President and asked the Regional Minister to be aware of "the consequences that his utterances might create."

''He (Regional Minister) intends to set the people against me. This is very unfortunate,'' the Omanhene added.
