Three communities in the BAK benefit from projects

Mpatasie (Ash), Nov. 27, GNA - Three communities in the Bosomtwe-Atwima-Kwanwoma District were on Friday provided with three separate projects constructed at a total value of over 928 million cedis.

Mpatasie, one of the beneficiaries got a six-classroom block constructed at the cost of 400 million cedis for R/C Primary School, while Twede had its old and dilapidated Area Council office block renovated at the cost of 250 million cedis, with Kuntanase township benefiting from the provision of an Acqua Privy toilet at the cost of 278 million cedis.

The school project and renovation of the Twede Area council Office block were funded by the Assembly from its common fund, while construction of the Acqua privy toilet at Kuntanase was funded from the HIPC funds.

Commissioning the projects separately at Mpatasie, Kuntanase and Twede, Mr Bright Addai Mununkum, District Chief Executive for Bosomtwe-Atwima-Kwanwoma, expressed grave concern about the tendency for people to normally neglect or fail to maintain projects into which huge sums of monies have been vested.

He said it was not only morally wrong, but also socially unacceptable for communities, which have benefited from huge investments in projects by the Assembly to still depend solely on the same Assembly for maintaining the infrastructure.

The DCE reminded the beneficiary communities that the only way they could show their appreciation to the Government for the projects, was not by praising the Government, but by taking the initiative to ensure regular maintenance of the facility.

Mr Mununkum made it clear that since the communities were numerous, the only chance for any other community to benefit from projects was for such a community to be development-oriented and to also breed and nurture the culture of maintenance of public infrastructure. He used the visit to stress the need for the people not to take the National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS) for granted, but take it more seriously and register to enable them benefit from it. Nana Opoku Amoabeng II, Mpatasiehene commended the government for the school block and gave the assurance that the chief and elders would put in place a mechanism to ensure that all children of school-going age in the community attended school.
