Three corporate bodies on Wednesday donated various items worth Gh¢76,860.00 to the Ministry of Food and Agriculture (MOFA), towards the successful celebration of this year’s Farmers’ Day, scheduled to take place in Bolgatanga on December 4.
They were Wienco Ghana Limited, Multivet Ghana Limted, and Ghana Free Zones Board.
Mr Dela Nyarko, Marketing Officer of Wienco Ghana Limited presented items worth Gh¢50,000.00, made up of a cheque for Gh¢20,000.00 and products and services worth Gh¢30,000.00.
The other items were 10 pieces of Cocoa Matabi Knapsacks, 10 pieces of Matabi Super Agro 16 Pro+Knapsacks, five gallons of Rival, weedicides, five cartons of Lagon (250mls x 20 bottles) per carton, a maize herbicide, 20 cartons of Decis Fort, an insecticide, five cartons of Cropmax per carton, Foliar supplement, 5,000 pieces of Wienco key holders, 2,400 pieces of Safari hats, 1,500 pieces of mug, 1,000 T-shirts.
He said Wienco Ghana Limited, an agricultural company, which specializes in the importation and distribution of high quality agro-inputs that meet international standards, was supporting the celebration as a platinum sponsor.
Mr Stephen Kwabena Anning, Branch Manager of Multivet Ghana Limited, importers of agro-chemicals and veterinary pharmaceutical products donated items worth 16,860 Ghana Cedis.
These were made up of a cheque for Gh¢1,140.00, and products including; 480 litres of oximulti egg, 100 litres of dewormer, and 960 litres of weedicides worth Gh¢15,460.00.
Mr Ziblim Alhassan Betintiche, Head of Administration of the Ghana Free Zones Board also presented a cheque for Gh¢10,000.00.
Dr Hanna Bissiw, Deputy Minister of MOFA expressed the Ministry's appreciation to the donors for the quality and good products, and said they would motivate the farmers to grow more food to meet the country’s food security needs.
She said the items had provided value for chain which the Ministry currently stood for, and called on other corporate bodies to emulate the example of the donors, because they would be supporting a good course.
She said by their donation both in kind and in cash, the donors were acknowledging the work of the farmers, adding that if farmers should go on strike or decide to poison our fisheries and food products, the security of everyone’s life would be severely compromised.
She urged stakeholders to remember farmers, as they went about their daily businesses, and make some donations in their honour.
