Tigo supports GJA Awards

Mobile telecommunication network, Tigo Ghana, has presented a cheque of GHC10,000 to support this year’s Ghana Journalist Awards (GJA.)

The gesture was to demonstrate Tigo’s commitment towards celebrating professionalism and excellence among journalists by supporting the upcoming 20th Ghana Journalists Awards (GJA.)

Presenting the cheque at a short ceremony in Accra, Head of Corporate Communications and CSR, Gifty Bingley, said the company was proud to announce its sponsorship for the Online Category Awards of this year’s Ghana Journalist Awards.

According to her, Tigo is elated about the sponsoring of the Online Category Awards of the 20th edition of the Ghana Journalist Awards, adding that it is in line with the company’s digital agenda strategy which is keeping customers connected.

“We are very excited about sponsoring that category because it is in line with our digital agenda strategy which is keeping customers connected,” Miss Bingley said.

She said the role of the online news sources cannot be over emphasised as it is rapidly transforming access to information, irrespective of people’s location and economic circumstance.

She further disclosed that the challenge however was sifting through the tons of information to determine what is credible and reliable and encouraged online new sources not to sacrifice accuracy for speed.

For his part, President of the Ghana Journalist Association, Dr. Affail Monney, commended Tigo for the kind gesture and called on corporate Ghana to support the pursuit of excellence among journalists.

“Many are those who look at our flaws and paint all of us with the same accusing brush. Yes, human we are so we have our own imperfections but our imperfections do not obscure that fact that majority of our members are doing well, they are excelling and their excellence is impacting meaningfully and positively in all dimensions of national life,” Dr. Monney said.

He disclosed that the 2015 Awards will have energy as the main focus.
