One person is confirmed dead in an accident that happened on Saturday, November 19, 2022, at the Bogoso market in the Western Region after timber fell on four cars.

Three other persons also sustained various degrees of injury who are receiving treatment at the Bogoso Health Centre.

The deceased has been identified as Kapire Yaw-Kwakye, aged 43. His identity was known after his Ghana card was found on him.

According to eyewitnesses, a fully loaded timber truck with registration number AS 2765-R failed to break while climbing towards the Bogoso market Roundabout and run into other vehicles in reverse downhill.

While trying to find a way of stabilizing, the logs fell on three passenger vehicles

and one Toyota Corolla private car trapping one of the passengers.

A combined rescue team from Future Global Resources, Ghana National Fire Service, NADMO, Ghana Police Service, National Ambulance Service and volunteers came in but after the trapped passenger was reached, he was lifeless.

According to a driver of the passenger vehicles, Augustus Osei who was the driver of

Mazda Demio Taxi cab with registration number GW 6327-22, he shouted for all the passengers to get down and run for their lives upon sensing danger but unfortunately the man couldn't.

He explained that he loaded from Bawdie to Bogoso.

“When I was climbing the hill to the market roundabout, there was a tricycle

(pragya ahead of me before the timber truck. I saw that the pragya rider had left

the tricycle to run away, so when I lifted my head, I saw that the truck was coming

backwards so I shouted that the driver had failed break so they should run away

so everybody ran out of the car leaving the deceased and the log fell on him and

trapped him”, he added.

The remains of the deceased has been deposited at the VIP morgue in Bogoso.
