Tindongo community gets new school

Tindongo (U/E), June 28, GNA - The Tindongo community in the Talensi-Nabdam District has started using a new three-classroom block that they built with support from the Member of Parliament for Tongo Constituency, Mr John Tia.

The building, which has an office and a storeroom, cost 118 million cedis and it came from Mr Tia's share of the Common Fund while the community provided labour.

Mr Tia, who is also the Minority Chief Whip, presented the keys of the school building to Mr. Francis Ayaba, District Director of Education in the presence of the elders of the community at the weekend. The MP advised the elders to encourage the youth to participate in community projects that would develop the area.

Mr Ayaba said the school had 75 pupils in classes One and Two with two volunteer untrained teachers. He said when the old school building collapsed the older children were encouraged to go to school at the nearest community about four kilometres away.

Mr Ayaba thanked the MP for his support and appealed to GES to post trained teachers to the school.

Mr Tia, who was inspecting projects he had been supporting with his share of the Common Fund, inspected work on a clinic building estimated to cost 500 million cedis at Duusi near Tongo.

He said the building, designed to provide additional housing for one health worker, was started by World Vision Ghana but left uncompleted and that he had spent 357 million cedis so far on it. The chief of Duusi, Naa Lincoln Bayelm Kambe, said the community's main concern was for the welfare of children and mothers. He appealed to the Ministry of Health to post health personnel to the community to live with them and see to the health needs of children.
