Tobinco Foundation offers scholarship for tertiary students

Tobinco Foundation, a subsidiary of Tobinco Group of Companies at the weekend presented a scholarship package of GHc30,000.00 to 20 needy but brilliant students from various tertiary institutions across the country.

The Foundation, which generally works in areas of education, health, livelihood, economic empowerment, and social safety, established the Educational Scholarship scheme to support students whose parents find it difficult to cater for their fees.

Mrs Millicent Akoto, Executive Director of Tobinco Foundation, at a ceremony to unveil the package to the beneficiaries in Accra, said the Foundation had already paid the school fees of 24 students from both tertiary and secondary level in March and June this year.

She said the Foundation spent GHc15,799.00 in March and GHc12,992.00 in June 2015 for the students, adding that the tertiary package for each student depends on the need assessment audit.

She explained that the continuous enjoyment of the scholarship package depended on the performance of the students, saying “those who failed to perform will be removed from the scheme and the opportunity offered to others on the waiting list.

“The Foundation will never pay for students who produce bad results…you must therefore make good use of the opportunity and concentrate on your studies”.

Mr Samuel Frimpong, a student of Western Hill School of Nursing, told the GNA in an interview that he has lost both parents and considers the scholarship package as a divine intervention.

Mr Michael Adofo, a student of the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology, also told the GNA that he escorted a blind relative to the office of the Foundation and through that he got to know about the student scholarship, which he met his needs, and so he applied and was given the opportunity.

Both students and other beneficiaries who were present at the gathering expressed their gratitude to the Foundation for such goodwill.
