Togbega Gabusu VII planting the tree
His Royal Majesty Togbega Gabusu VII, on Friday, 7th June 2024, led the good people of the Gbi Traditional Area to participate in this year's Green Ghana Day, which aims to revive national interest and action towards a greener Ghana.
Hundreds of residents of Hohoe heeded the rallying call of Togbega Gabusu VII by showing up at St. Teresa’s College of Education to partake in the tree planting exercise, helping to realize the revered king's dream of planting 30,000 trees in the Gbi Traditional Area.
He urged other chiefs within the Volta Region and beyond to lead their subjects in planting and nurturing trees to maturity, as he believes this will significantly complement the government's aggressive afforestation efforts.
He also called for the sustainable management of forests, urging punitive action against individuals whose actions result in environmental destruction. "We must ensure that our forests are managed sustainably," he said.
Delivering a speech at the Green Ghana Day ceremonial planting, on behalf of Mr. Francis Fiakpui, the Municipal Chief Executive, it was revealed that 30,000 trees, including 100 cashew and mahogany trees, will be planted in the Hohoe Municipality as part of this year's government initiative, Green Ghana Day.
Mr. Francis Fiakpui assured that the trees would be well nurtured and protected to ensure their full development and serve the purpose of greening the Volta Region, Ghana, and the world at large.
He disclosed that the government's bid to plant 10 million trees should serve as a call to national duty, encouraging residents to plant more than one tree as they will enjoy the supreme benefit of a green environment.
Mr. Samuel Bruce Kpeglo of St. Teresa's College of Education delivered a speech on behalf of the Principal of the College, Prof. (Mrs.) Scholastica Azuah, stating that the tree planting initiative not only reflects our commitment to the environment but also inspires all individuals to take important steps towards a green future.
