Togbega Gbogbolulu V, Paramount Chief of Vakpo, in the Volta Region, has called on the youth to rally behind the traditional authorities and other opinion leaders to augment development in their localities.
“This is the time for all inclusive governance, when we your leaders need your total support to make the work easier and achievable,” he explained.
Togbega Gbogbolulu, who made the call while addressing a maiden Meet-the Youth Programme at his palace at Vakpo, appealed to them to form and sustain vibrant associations to facilitate progress in their communities.
The aim of the programme was to create the necessary platform for Togbega to account for his 13 years reign in terms of achievements, challenges and also to discuss the way forward with the youth whom he described as the engine of growth.
The meeting also brainstormed on how to bring discipline and development to Vakpo and tap the resources and potentials of the area to advance education, agriculture and environmental soundness.
Togbega Gbogbolulu said under his rule, the Traditional Council has improved on the palace structure, elevating into a modern edifice.
The fenced palace has also been provided with electricity, water and furnished with the state of the art equipment.
There is also a plan to maintain the edifice every three years.
He said, the Council has also renovated the former local council premises with the intention to house personnel of Ghana Police Service but the structure was given out to the North Dayi District Assembly for a district magistrate court.
Togbega Gbogbolulu said the Council has also benefitted from an Export Marketing and Quality Awareness Centre at the local old Animal Husbandry site.
On education, Togbega Gbogbolulu said, the Council established an Education Endowment Fund in 2009 sponsoring brilliant but needy students in the area.
“Two beneficiaries of the fund had gained admission into Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology, Kumasi.
Two beneficiaries have also completed senior high schools and are awaiting result with five more in school,” he said.
The Traditional Council has secured tertiary scholarships for one student at the University of Cape Coast and two for senior high schools at Kpando, from Volta River Authority’s Development Programme.
Togbega Gbogbolulu said, the Traditional Council has established 50 acres mango farm and invested in fish farming.
“The Council has established a gari-processing centre as an on-going project near the Vakpo market.”
The Council has acquired 8.3 acres of land for the Ministry of Health for the establishment of Vakpo Polyclinic.
Togbega Gbogbolulu said documents on the project are being processed by Mr Francis Ganyaglo, Deputy Regional Minister and appealed to him to expedite action on it.
At the ceremony Mamaga Dzomagbalata V Queenmother of Vakpo, donated assorted educational materials to two students of the Vakpo Adomi R.C. Junior High School with the promise to sponsor their education.
She appealed to parents to support the efforts of teachers in providing quality education for their children.
