Togocel interrupting calls in Volta region

There are widespread reports of the cellular telephone network, Togocel, a telecommunication network in neighbouring Togo interrupting with mobile networks in parts of the Volta region.

Some residents in the Akatsi North District of the Region alleged that Togocel intermittently appears on their mobile phones, making it difficult for them to make or receive calls.

They said the situation was so frustrating to the extent that calls within Ghana either do not go through or drops intermittently.

Mr Moses Akpalu, self-employed, told the Ghana News Agency that, on a few occasions, he could not make emergency calls to his sick sister at the hospital, undermining the usefulness of mobile phones in the area.

Madam Justine Acolatse, a teacher said she has three mobile phones but could not use any because whenever she made calls, she was charged international rates and her credits were deducted anytime she received calls.

Mr James Gunu, Akatsi North District Chief Executive said the issue came to the notice of the Assembly and had been referred to the Assembly’s Security and Justice sub-committee.

He said the situation was impinge on economic activities in the District and feared it could affect security if not tackled early.

Mr Gunu appealed to the players in the telecommunication industry to help address the situation in time.

“It is very worrying. It has slowed down businesses and must be resolved in time,” he stated.

The GNA gathered that the situation is the same in the Agotime-Ziope and Ketu-South Districts.
