Tom & Tom opens 5-day photographic exhibition in Accra, showcases Ghana’s rich cultural heritage celebration

The vibrant city of Accra played host to a captivating five-day photographic exhibition titled "Spirit Possession," a visual celebration of Ghana's rich cultural heritage.
Renowned photographers Thomas Appleton Lamb from the USA and Thomas Fynn from Ghana collaborated to bring this exhibition to life, showcasing the essence of Ghana's beauty and traditions.
The event, held at the prestigious Civil and Local Government Staff Association, Ghana, National Headquarters in Ministries, Accra, was inaugurated with great pomp and ceremony.
Inspired by the "Experience Ghana, Share Ghana" campaign by the Ghana Tourism Authority (GTA), the exhibition aimed to offer a comprehensive visual narrative of Ghana's tourism, arts, culture, history, and natural resources.
Tom & Tom embarked on a remarkable 14-day journey across six regions of Ghana in June 2023, capturing the country's diverse cultural tapestry with the support of key stakeholders such as the Ministry of Tourism Arts and Culture, the Ghana Tourism Authority, and CLOGSAG.
The visionary Executive Director of FYNNexhibits, Thomas Fynn expressed his gratitude and excitement at the opening ceremony, emphasizing the storytelling power of photography. Each image displayed at the exhibition narrated a unique story, bridging cultural divides and enchanting viewers with glimpses of Ghana's vibrant traditions and landscapes.
The exhibition featured a myriad of sub-themes, including the Rites of Passage in Ghana, Chieftaincy and Traditional Cultural Festivals, Traditional Music and Dance, Traditional Cuisine, African Culture, Pristine Beaches, and Landscapes, offering patrons a kaleidoscopic view of Ghana's cultural wealth.
Speaking at the event, Senior Corporate Affairs Officer of the Ghana Tourism Authority, Judith Kelly underscored the importance of events like the "Spirit Possession" exhibition in showcasing Ghana as a diverse cultural hub with breathtaking natural beauty.
She highlighted the dual purpose of preserving Ghana's heritage and driving economic growth through tourism.
Additionally, a special speech was delivered on behalf of His Royal Majesty, Gbese Mantse-Dr Nii Ayi Bonte II, emphasizing the importance of the exhibition in promoting Ghana as a top tourism destination.
His Royal Majesty highlighted the significance of the "Spirit Possession" exhibition in reflecting the Ga Mashi and annual Homowo festivals, essential components of Ghanaian culture.
He expressed optimism that the exhibition would showcase Ghana, the Ministry of Tourism Arts and Culture, the Gbese state, and the Ga state to the international community, attracting visitors and revenue to the country.
Gbese Mantse commended the photographers for their dedication to presenting Ghana's cultural richness comprehensively and attractively, projecting a positive image of the country in the global tourism industry.
As the exhibition unfolds over the next five days, visitors are encouraged to immerse themselves in the captivating cultural heritage, natural splendour, and historical depth of Ghana.
