Tongu Queens to reverse poor academic performance

Adidome Dofor (V/R), Oct. 02, GNA - Mama Dumenya Azawogbe, Acting President of Tongu Queens Association, has called on members of the Association to help reverse the poor academic performance of schools in the area.

She urged them to visit basic schools regularly and implement measures to address the challenges of the schools. Mama Azawogbe made the call at the Annual General Meeting of the Association at Adidome Dofor. The meeting was to unite Queens of the 13 Traditional areas in Tongu and provide them the opportunity to assess the developments of the area. She appealed to the Queens to engage teachers and parents of children in their areas on how to improve academic performance and ensure quality teaching and learning.

Mama Azawogbe described the performance of students in the Tongu area in this year's BECE as very bad with several schools scoring zero per cen= t and said it was time the traditional authorities woke up to their responsibilities. She advised the Queens to consider enacting bye-laws which would deter schoolchildren from staying late at night in town. Mama Azawogbe said the Association would soon embark upon a campaign t= o ensure that children especially girls remained in school instead of going t= o the market or farm during school hours.

She appealed to parents to support the traditional authorities and teachers in their quest to improve academic performance in the area. Mamaa Alorvi II, Queen of Dofor Agorveme who hosted the meeting, said she was unhappy with the indecent dressing of young people in the area.
