Hours of torrential rains on Wednesday evening led to the death of a five-year-old boy at Gomoa Jukwa in the Gomoa Central District of the Central Region.
The deceased who was sleeping together with his parents and a sibling died when parts of the mud house in which they were sleeping fell on them killing him instantly while the others sustained various degrees of injuries.
Mr Joseph Kwame Donkor, Regional Director of NADMO who confirmed this to the Ghana News Agency (GNA) said over 100 residents had been displaced with properties running into thousands of Ghana Cedis lost.
According to him, the worst-hit areas were Gomoa Central District and also Kasoa Iron City where many of the buildings were in waterways.
He said more than 70 houses, 25 in Gomoa Central District and 50 in the Awutu Senya East Municipality had been affected.
The NADMO Director said his outfit was working hand in hand with the Awutu Senya East Municipal Assembly to pull some houses in waterways in some areas down to avert such disasters.
He urged remote communities to pool resources together to construct temporal gutters and embark on communal labour to distil gutters to avoid flooding in this rainy season.
