Tullow presents giant television sets to Western Regional Youth Centre

Sekondi June 12, GNA - Tullow Ghana Limited and its partners at the Jubilee Oil Field, at the weekend presented giant television sets to the Western Regional Youth Centre at Sekondi. Madam Betty Bosomtwe-Sam, Deputy Regional Minister, who was the Guest of honour at the ceremony, thanked Tullow and its partners for the facility, which she said would make it possible for people in the area to watch the on-going World Cup tournament. She said football promotes unity since it brings people of diverse background together. Madam Bosomtwe-Sam expressed the hope that Ghana would make history at the tournament. She called on Tullow and its partners to provide more assistance to the people under their social responsibility programmes. The Deputy Regional Minister suggested the rehabilitation of Sekondi Gyandu Park as a project worth considering. Okyeame Ampadu Adjei, Corporate Social Responsibility Manager of Tullow, said the television facility would facilitate recreational and educational programmes at the place.

He said 17 viewing centres in the Sekondi-Takoradi Metropolis, Shama District, Ahanta West District, Nzema East District, Ellembelle District and Jomoro District would each be presented with a giant television viewing facility. Each viewing centre has been given 200 chairs and year long fully paid subscription fee for DSTV. The viewing centres are; the Jubilee Park in Takoradi, Dixcove Community Centre, Abura Community Centre, Axim Community Centre, Apewosika Chief Fishermen's Palace, Aiyinasi Community Centre, Esiama's Chief's Palace. Buaku Community Centre and Ahobre community Centre. Okyeame Adjei said the project, being implemented in collaboration with the district assemblies involves the creation of a permanent forum for community engagement, consultation and information disclosure. Meanwhile, Soccer fans in Sekondi-Takoradi are gearing up for the first match of the Black Stars against Serbia on Sunday, May 13. The match is the talk of the town and Ghana flags and T-shirts are being sold almost every where in town.
