Tumu Kuoro urges Youth to acquire vocational skills

Kuoro Richard Babini Kanton, Paramount Chief of the Tumu Traditional Area, has urged the youth to endeavour to acquire vocational and technical skills to become self-employed.

He said the acquisition of vocational and technical skills would not only make them contribute meaningfully to the national economy, but would also inspire them to become self-determined in the forward march of Ghana’s development transformation process.

The Tumu Kuoro made the call during the out-dooring of “Hamisi Kuoro” (Youth Chief) Kuoro Batie Dimah Tommie for Tumu at the weekend.

The Hamisi Kuoro is seen as an ambassador who mobilizes the youth and carries information from the chief and elders to them, as well organizes them to support the effective administration and development agenda of the community.

Kuoro Kanton urged the youth to form co-operatives, and take advantage of the available arable land in the area to undertake large scale agricultural production.

He said the formation of co-operatives would qualify them to acquire farm machinery, inputs and credit facilities from financial institutions, to expand their production and income levels.

The Tumu Kuoro appealed to the Youth to be disciplined, and respect the Hambisi Kuoro, especially his authority, for the effective administration of Tumu, to ensure sustainable peace for development.

Kuoro Tommie, in his welcoming address, called for co-operation and support of all in the community to make him achieve his development goals.

He appealed to the Tumu Kuoro to prevail on chiefs within his paramountcy to appoint youth chiefs in the communities to help his administration address issues that undermine youth development.

He gave the assurance that his administration would co-operate with all stakeholders, especially the Kuoro Kanton, for the rapid development of Tumu.

On agriculture, he appealed to government to make farm machinery, inputs and improved seeds, available to farmers at the right time and at a reasonable cost, to encourage the youth to take up agriculture.

Kuoro Tommie also urged parents to take the education of their children seriously, and support their wards to complete, at least their basic education.

He advised parents not to shirk their responsibilities towards children who had dropped out of school, but to look at other alternate ways of making them productive, to prevent them from indulging in social vices, such as armed robbery and excessive alcohol intake.

The occasion was characterized by musketry, music, drumming and dancing.
