After experiencing a temporal closure the Tuobodom magistrate court which was serving residents in Techiman north was on 4th January, 2007 given the green light to commence its normal legal duties.
The legal house was closed down about two years ago following an uproar that arose between some students of Tuobodom Secondary Technical School (TSTS) and the police in the Town. This was after a student of the school had flouted over regulations binding the use of police wear by civilians. In the process, the police station in the Town was closed down.
Mr. Ampaabeng Kyeremeh, secretary to the Tuobodom area council who disclosed this to Classic News said the re-opening of the court building will improve law and order in the town. According to him, the absence of the court for a short period affected the peaceful atmosphere in the area.
He said the crucial role of the judiciary towards peace and stability in the country should be commended by all patriotic citizens. Mr. Kyeremeh pointed out that the magistrate court which was transferred to the Municipal capital, Techiman, must serve as real lesson to the recalcitrant youths, particularly those who played instrumental role in the wrangling leading to the mysterious death of a farmer after being hit by a stray bullet.
The secretary explained that the town council in collaboration with traditional leaders in the farming community spent up to ¢20m to put the court building in shape. He continued that, ¢5m was also used to renovate the police station. The youth were cautioned to forget about their sordid past and live in harmony, there by creating a congenial atmosphere for both public and civil servants working in Tuobodom. Students of the TSTS were also charged on not to exhibit such illicit behaviuor since it has adverse effect on social services.
Mr. Kyeremh took the opportunity to advice the people to honour their various rates because through that, the assembly embarks on developmental projects in the town. He stated emphatically that any one who tries to invade rates or any form of tax will be arraigned before the magistrate court for it to serve as deterrent to others. A call was made to chiefs and other opinion leaders to come together and help ensure discipline in the town. This according to the secretary when done will go a long way to impact positively on socio-economic development in Tuobodom.
Meanwhile the police station had already been opened.
