Tuobodom asks for re-opening of Police station

Tuobodom (B/A) July 7, GNA - Residents of Tuobodom in Techiman Municipality in Brong Ahafo have appealed to the Brong Ahafo Regional Police Command to re-open the police station in the town.

They noted that the closure of the station last year following its vandalisation as a result of disturbances between students of Tuobodom Secondary/Technical School and the police had allowed some people to take the law into their hands. Mr. Kofi Yeboah, a transport owner, told Ghana News Agency in an interview at Tuobodom that, "the re-opening of the Police Station would go a long way to curb the many incidents of indiscipline in the area. He noted that the absence of security personnel in the area had made traders, especially women who commuted between Accra and other parts of the country and the town to buy tomatoes, to feel unsafe, "as some residents have taken the law into their own hands".

Mr. Yeboah said the police station had since been rehabilitated by the residents and called on the Police Administration to reconsider their stance and post police personnel to the area to enhance the development of the area.

Mr. Yeboah also appealed to the Ministry of Roads and Transport through the Municipal Assembly to rehabilitate the 18-kilometre road linking Tuobodom to Offuman and surrounding villages to facilitate the transportation of large quantities of tomatoes to marketing centres. "Tuobodom is a notable tomato-growing area and the farmers could load about 50 trucks with tomatoes a day but now this has drastically reduced because of the deplorable state of the road", he said. The transport owner mentioned the Buoyem-Boaso, Buoyem-Asempaneye, Tuobodom-Bonya, Buoyem-Akonkonti and Tuobodom-Bia as some of the roads that need immediate attention.

Mr. Yeboah called for a reduction in the prices of farming inputs such as fertilizer, insecticides and cutlasses to enable farmers to meet their operational costs. July 07 05
