Barekese (Ash), Feb. 9, GNA - The first batch of 25 trainees in batik, tie and dye sponsored by the Atwima district assembly last Friday passed out at the Evata Batik Tie and Dye Centre after three months' training.
The assembly gave each trainee 500,000 cedis to purchase inputs for their training.
Speaking at the passing out ceremony, Mr Charles Yeboah, the Atwima District Chief Executive, said the assembly had assisted a number of youth in the area to acquire skills in batik tie and dye, snail rearing and bee-keeping.
He said the mass cocoa spraying exercise had also offered employment to a number of unemployed youth in the district. Mr Yeboah said apart from initiating income-generating activities, the assembly was also creating awareness on HIV/AIDS to prevent its spread.
The DCE gave the assurance that the assembly would continue to support well-organised youth groups in the district to acquire skills in order to become self reliant.
Mr Yeboah said the assembly was determined to push forward the National Health Insurance Scheme "with a new sense of mission and dynamism" and urged the people to patronise it to ensure better health care delivery in the district.
