Twifo-Atimokwa Assembly arms up against coronavirus

The Twifo-Atimokwa District Chief Executive (DCE), Robert Agyemang Nyantakyi, has distributed large quantity of protective kits to key institutions in the area and the public, as part of the aggressive drive to prevent the spread of the coronavirus (COVID-19).

These include hand-sanitizers, Veronica buckets, tissue paper and liquid soap. Among the beneficiaries were traders, corporate entities, the markets and lorry stations.

In addition, the Assembly has scaled up public education to reach out to everybody regardless of geographical location and this is being done with the support of all relevant stakeholders.

Mr. Nyantekyi encouraged all to ensure social distancing and to wash their hands under running water to protect themselves from catching the flu-like virus.



President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo as part of enhanced measures to contain and stop the spread of the pathogen has closed the country’s borders to human traffic, suspended social gatherings including funerals, church services and shut down schools.

The markets and lorry stations, however, are continuing to operate.

The DCE spoke of the need to maintain good hygiene, especially, at the markets and lorry stations – places he said, were highly prone to the transmission of the virus.

Mr. Nyantekyi reminded parents to give maximum protection to their children by helping them to keep to safety precautions.

He counselled the young people to also take responsibility for their own health and safety by staying away from game centres.

He rallied all Ghanaians to join the fight against the spread of the infection.

Globally more than 471,000 people have been infected by the virus with more than 21,000 dead.

Ghana’s case count is 132 with three deaths.
