Two NGOs to assist Yele Community with a classroom block

Yele (U/E), Aug 6, GNA - Afrikids Ghana and Princess Umul Hatiyya Foundation, both non-governmental organizations, are working to build a classroom block in the Yele Community in the Talensi-Nabdam District.

The Yele Primary School with a population of 139 in the Yele Community have for the past years been operating in a small single mud structure and a shade with no furniture.

The Executive Director of Afrikids Ghana, Mr Nicholas Kumah and the founder of Hatiyya Foundation, Princess Umul Hatiyya, said this when they donated 150 lap desks to the Yele Primary School on Friday.

Ms Hatiyya said she was touched by the way and manner the pupils in the school sat on the bare floor to write and that plans were advanced by her outfit in collaboration with Afrikids to build a classroom block for the community.

The team presented 136 lap desks to class one pupils of the Gaare Gbane Primary School in the same district that has a population of 800 pupils.

The Head teacher of the School, Mr Yinyaaba Stephen, and the teachers expressed their appreciation to Afrikids Ghana and Princess Hatiyya Foundation and said the donation would reduce the tendency of the pupils' books getting destroyed in short time because they put them on the ground.

The Headmaster said the provision of the classroom block would help enhance academic performance of the school, adding that the current situation was not the best for teaching and learning.

The Programme Manager of Afrikids Ghana in charge of the Talensi-Nabdam District, Mr Amoah Richard, commended the head teacher and teachers of the school for working hard under such trying conditions.
