The Tamale lorry station at Alabar in Kumasi where the incident happened Thursday has temporarily been shutdown to avert a possible reprisal attacks. Ashanti Regional Police Deputy Public Relations Officer, Chief Inspector Godwin Ahianyo, told TV3 the station will be cordoned off until city authorities determine a legitimate manager.

A free-for-all fight broke out at the station when the supporters of the two parties clashed over who management of the place, leaving two persons with machete wounds. The police deployed to the scene fired several warning shots to split the two groups from pelting stones and other weapons at each other.

The NPP faction claimed they were in charge of the lorry station but were driven away by supporters of the NDC in 2009 when the party won the elections. According to them, the time has come for them to take back management of the station because NPP is now in power.
