Two communities in the Talensi District of the Upper East Region at the weekend smoked a peace pipe following a clash over a piece of land.

The clash between Tindong and Namoalug in April led to the loss of four lives and destructions of property including livestock.

The District Chief Executive for the area, Mrs Vivian Anafo, appealed to the two communities never to allow such a thing to happen since it retarded development.

She said the conflict caused the District Assembly huge sums of money which should have gone into development for the welfare of the people.

“During the conflict teachers and nurses could not come to work. Schools in the area were closed. You share the same facilities and have one Assembly man. Why should you engage yourselves in petty conflict?” she asked.

Mrs. Lucy Auni, the Upper East Deputy Regional Minister, said conflicts should be resolved by using dialogue instead of violence which brings about destruction and no any investor would like to invest in such areas.

She said government cannot continue to use huge sums of money in maintaining peace as result of conflicts and appealed to the traditional authorities and opinion leaders to work towards maintaining peace in the area.
