Two illustrious brothers honoured

Kotwia (Ash), Aug.4, GNA- The Chiefs and people of Kotwia and Abodom in the Amansie East District of Ashanti Region, on Sunday held a durbar to honour two illustrious brothers for their contribution to development in the country.

Mr Thomas Amo-Bediako, a retired educationist, and his brother Pastor Matthew Amo-Bediako of the Seventh-Day Adventist (SDA) Church, received separate citations and a Kente cloth and a stool each. The items were presented to them by Nana Owusu Afriyie, Benkumhene of Kokofu on behalf of Barima Offe Okogyeasuo II, Paramount Chief of Kokofu Traditional Area. Dr. Winfred Richard Anane, Minister for Roads and Transportation, said the two brothers deserved to be honoured for their selfless devotion and commitment to the development of the area and the nation at large. He said whiles Mr Amo-Bediako was working on various aspects of education, Pastor Amo-Bediako was also wining souls for Christ adding that they both helped in the provision a hospital with qualified doctors for the people in the area. Dr. Anane said the fact that government had honoured Mr Amo-Bediako and the people also honoured him and his brother showed that they had actually contributed to national development, which was worthy of emulation by the youth.

The Minister said government had awarded on contract the roads from Bekwai to Asiwa and Asiwa to Bomfa junction. Nana Owusu Ansah, Odikro of Kotwia, said Mr Amo-Bediako served the nation in various capacities for 58 years while Pastor Amo-Bediako worked as a clergy for 41 years. Mr. Richard Aboagye, the Amansie East municipal Chief Executive, urged Mr Amo-Bediako and Pastor Amo-Bediako to continue to contribute to national development. Mr. Amo-Bediako thanked the chiefs and people of Kotwia and Abodom for honouring him and his brother. The retired educationist appealed to Dr Anane to ensue that roads in the area, particularly the three-kilometre road from Bekwai to Kotwia were rehabilitated to facilitate economic activities in the area.
