Two institutions donate towards farmers day

Daboase (W/R), Nov. 2, GNA - Wexford Goldfields Limited and World Vision (WV) Ghana, on Tuesday donated items worth 20 million cedis to the Mpohor Wassa East District Assembly towards the forthcoming National Farmers Day celebrations.

At a joint ceremony at Daboase, Mr. Eric Afful, Community Liaison Officer of Wexford Goldfields presented 25 pairs of Wellington boots and 100 pieces of cutlasses all valued at 15 million cedis to the District Assembly.

Madam Elisabeth Sagoe, District Officer of World Vision on behalf of her institution presented two hand spraying machines and five pairs of Wellington boots valued at five million cedis.

They said the gesture was in appreciation of efforts to encourage farmers to give of their best in the production of food and cash crops. Mr. Afful said his company also appreciates the support being offered by the District Assembly to check activities of "Galamsey" operators in its concessions.

Mr. Edward Tawiah Amprofi, District Chief Executive, who received the items thanked the donors for the gesture and urged other companies to emulate them to make this year's farmers day celebration in the district a success.

He promised to adopt measures to protect the mining company from encroachment by "Galamsey" operators.

Dr. Dickson Ankugah, District Director of Agriculture told the Ghana News Agency that Ghana Timber Board (TIMBoard), Takoradi Flour Mills and Pas Timbers are among institutions that had made similar donations towards the farmers day celebrations.
