Two killed in motor accident

Akim Swedru, Oct. 4 - GNA - Two people were killed on the spot when the taxi car on which they were travelling plunged into the Kosiko stream at Akim Swedru on Monday.

The victims were identified as Yaw Sampson, 29, the driver of the taxicab and a passenger identified only as Clement. The Akim Swedru police told the Ghana News Agency at Akim Oda that at about 0400 hours a driver reported at the station that an Opel Astra taxicab had fallen into a stream.

According to the Police, they sought the assistance of the Akim Oda branch of the Ghana Fire Service to retrieve the bodies and the vehicle from the stream and the bodies deposited at the Akim Oda Government Hospital mortuary pending autopsy.

In another accident, 15 people sustained various degrees of injuries when a Benz 207 bus on which they were travelling from Akim Oda to Accra was involved in an accident at Akim Aboabo on Monday. The victims were admitted at the Akim Oda Government Hospital. The police said the accident occurred when a refuse truck belonging to the Birim South District Assembly travelling from the opposite direction in an attempt to avoid hitting a car which parked on its way applied the breaks and the vehicle veered into the other lane. According to the police the refuse truck then collided with the bus resulting in the accident.

One of the passengers in the bus, Ama Anane whose condition was found to be critical had been referred to the St Joseph's Orthopaedic Hospital at Koforidua.
