The Ashanti Regional Minister, Simon Osei-Mensah has confirmed that the region has recorded two cases where the security officers enforcing the partial lockdown have used brut force on civilians.
There were several videos on social media suggesting that the personnel in the joint police-military operations enforcing the partial lockdown in Kumasi were subjecting citizens to series of brutalities.
But speaking on Kumasi-based Wontumi Radio monitored by MyNewsGh.com, the Regional Minister revealed that the region has recorded just two cases of brutality.
One of the cases he indicated was recorded in Tafo whiles the other case recorded was the confusion that emanated between the DCE for Efigya Kwabre South, Adu Poku Christian and the Police.
He explained that investigations are ongoing and people found culpable will face the full rigours of the laws.
The minister said other videos that have been circulating on social media do not paint the real picture of what exactly is happening on the ground. He alluded to the President’s claim that most of the videos were foreign.
“Most of the videos in circulation on social media are foreign and not a reflection of what is really happening on the ground. So far, we have recorded just two cases of brutality on the part of security personnel and they are currently being investigated. However, the videos circulating are foreign. One of the videos I saw is a Cameroonian video but people took it and did a voice-over on it claiming it’s Ghanaian.”
