Two separate districts to be created for Atwima

Nyinahin (Ash), Aug 23, GNA- Atwima District in Ashanti is to be separated into two- Nwabiagya and Mponua districts for effective and efficient administration of the area.

President John Agyekum Kufuor announced this on Friday when he addressed durbars of the chiefs and people of Nyinahin and Nkawie in the Atwima District, as part of his official tour of the Ashanti Region. He also inaugurated a 700 million-cedis hospital for the District at Nkawie.

The project, including semi-detached staff quarters, a pick-up and two motorbikes, was financed from the OPEC Fund.

The Hospital comprises of two consulting rooms, labour ward, a laboratory and observation rooms.

President Kufuor said plans are underway to reactivate and utilise the bauxite deposits at Nyinahin and Kibi in the Eastern region to create jobs for the youth.

He said work on the asphalting of the Abuakwa-Bibiani road would begin next year.

President Kufuor said investigations would be conducted into the abandoned National Agriculture Fair site at Nkawie on its feasibility. Nana Tano Afrancho, Apagyahene of Nyinahin, commended the government for providing electricity and potable water under the small town water project to the area.

He appealed for more staff quarters for the staff of the district hospital at Nyinahin and boarding facilities for the Nyinahin Senior Secondary School.

Nana Twum Barima Appau III, Nkawiehene, appealed to government to reactivate work on the 150-acre National Agricultural Fair site.

He said a 20-hectare land has also been released for the OPEC funded hospital and appealed to the government to expand the facility. Nana Appau appealed to government for assistance to the poultry industry to create more jobs for the youth.
