Two people who were caught with 47 wrappers of dried leaves suspected to be narcotic drugs have been remanded in prison custody by the Tarkwa circuit court.

The accused are Abraham Blay, a 22-year-old driver, and Joseph Ankrah, a 19-year-old small scale miner.

Their plea was not taken, and they would re-appear before court on November 17.

Prosecuting, Police Detective Chief Inspector Oscar Amponsah, told the court presided over by Mr Justice Kwasi Anto Ofori-Atta, a high court judge also presiding at a circuit court at Tarkwa that the police had a tip-off that some people were peddling drugs in the Simpa community which is along the Tarkwa-Takoradi highway.

Based on this, Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Cobbina Asante led a team of 12 police personnel to the town on September 27 to arrest the drug dealers.

Detective Amponsah said in the course of the exercise the accused persons were found possessing 47 wrappers of dried leaves suspected to be Indian hemp concealed in a bag.

The Prosecution said, the accused persons were arrested and escorted to the police station.

He said the exhibit would be forwarded to the Police Forensic Laboratory in Accra for examination.
