Two unions appeals to FWSC to expedite action on salaries

Two unions have appealed to the Fair Wages and Salary Commission (FWSC) to speed up negotiations with Ghana Association of University Administrators (GAUA) to facilitate better remuneration for employees in the public universities.

The Teachers and Educational Workers Union (TEWU) of the Trades Union Congress and the Federation of Universities Senior Staff Association of Ghana (FUSAG), said the delay in the completion of negotiations had led to non- payment of April 2012 salaries of their members due to an industrial action embarked upon by GAUA.

A press release jointly signed by Mr Mohammed S. Bogobiri, General Secretary of TEWU and Mr Jacob Emmanuel Eshun, General Secretary of FUSAG, said the resultant effect of the strike on members in the face of the current economic conditions in the country makes it impossible for them to meet the needs of their families and dependants.

While it called on FWSC to ensure fairness and equity in their dealings with the trade unions, it also urged management of public universities to ensure that “our members are paid their salaries…” for the sake of industrial peace, harmony and productivity.**
