Two women crowned "Yookama" 2014

Two women have been crowned ‘’Yookama’’ 2014 for their dedication and contribution towards the development of society at this year’s Women’s Day Celebration as part of the Ngmayem Festival of the chiefs and people of Manya Krobo .

The Women are Madam Eugenia Otubea Nyampong, Headmistress of Akro Junior High School and Mrs. Veronica Padiki Osom Boafo, a beautician.

The theme for the celebration was “the role of culture in sustaining peace for national development.”

Addressing the gathering, Nene Sakite II, Konor of Manya Krobo, said this year’s event was special due to the fact that two women were to be honored for their contribution to the progress of society.

He said “Yookama’’ was won based on one’s performance over the past years, the service and dedication of that person to the community.

Madam Betty Akumantey, a lecturer of Culture at the University of Ghana, appealed to the elderly to teach the younger generation the way of life of the people of the area which had kept them together till date.

Madam Akumantey said she foresaw the “’Yookama’’ festival bringing peace and unity to the Krobo land and urged the people not to allow politics to divide them.
