UCC to promote establishment of PTA

Apam, Aug. 6, GNA - The University of Cape Coast is promote the formation of a Parent Teacher Association (PTA) to assist the institution to improve its facilities.

Prof Kobina Yankson, Pro-Vice Chancellor of the University, who announced this stated that the increasing demand for tertiary education and the government's responsibilities made it imperative for parents to help in providing facilities in such institutions. Prof Yankson who is an old boy of the Apam Secondary School stated this at a leavers' service organized for final year students of the school at Apam.

He said the PTA was expected to liase between the authorities and the students for them to appreciate the problems of the institution. "The time has come for parents to do what it is to give their children quality education," the Prof stated.

Prof Yankson reminded teachers that their worth was measured by the results of their students and urged them to work hard to produce scholars who could fit into the society. He urged old students to help in developing their alma mater and to feel proud to be associated with their former school. More AAB 06 Aug 05

NSOC 07 Social Varsity PTA 2 Apam

Pro Yankson advised students to understand why they were in school to enable them to know what to do to achieve the purpose. He appealed to the Headmaster to see old students and the PTA as stakeholders to make good use of them to achieve the vision of the school. Mr Archibold Fuah, Headmaster, said with the support of the PTA and the old students association, the water problem, poor sanitation and the disciplinary and academic problems, which confronted him when he took over administration of the school about eight months ago had improved. "I am happy to state that the sanitation is much better so has the quality and quantity of food served in the dining hall improved tremendously and the reported cases of illness at the sick bay has drastically reduced," the headmaster stated. Mr Fuah commended the two Paramount Chiefs in the area and their Sub-Chiefs for supporting the school in diverse ways. The school's magazine, Obra Pa and a set of musical instruments bought by the school were inaugurated at the ceremony. Mr Fuah commended Deputy Superintendent of Police John Asare Naami, a parent for donating a sound system to the school. Mrs Charlotte Obeng, Chairperson of the Old Students Association, bought the first copy of the magazine for one million cedis. 06 Aug 05
