UEW appeals for funds to expand facilities

The authorities of the University of Education, Winneba have appealed to the Government to provide the needed resources for the procurement of equipment and infrastructure to facilitate work and studies.

The Vice-Chancellor of the University, Professor Akwasi Asabere-Ameyaw made the appeal at the matriculation of fresh students to undertake courses in diploma and degree programmes at the University on Saturday.

He said out of 13,173 applications received for the various programmes at the main campus at Winneba and Ajumako, the University was able to offer admission to only 5,690, representing 43 percent.

According to the Vice-Chancellor, out of the stated figure, 4,207 registered as at the close of registration.

He said the University continues to expand its postgraduate programme to offer high level skills and competencies needed for the various sectors of the economy, particularly the educational sector.

“A total of 663 applications were received for various post-graduate programmes at the Winneba campus and a total of 273, representing 41 percent comprising 184 males and 89 females were offered admission”.

Prof Asabere-Ameyaw said the UEW remains the only University in the country that is totally committed to the training of teachers and education.

He said the UEW has committed and continues to commit huge sums of internally generated funds to improve on facilities to facilitate research.

The Vice-Chancellor made an appeal to the Government to make a special budgetary provision to UEW to enable it totally change the outlook of the University.

The Registrar of the University, Mr C. Y. Akwaa-Mensah, administered the Matriculation Oath to the fresh students.
