Winneba (C/R), May 24, GNA-The Effutu Municipal Police Commander, Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Mr Francis Yiribaare on Saturday warned that meting out instant justice to suspects is criminal and against the law of the state. He has therefore appealed to the general public to hand over any suspected person to the police for investigation. ASP Yiribaare said this when addressing a handing over and swearing in ceremony of out-going and in-coming executives of the University of Education, Winneba, Student Representatives Council (SRC) in Winneba.

"It is arbitrary, malicious and does not meet the tenets of the rule of law and due process, adding that, it also prevents the law enforcement agencies to bring offenders to book". The new SRC executives are made up of Mr Abdul Frank Saeed, President, with Mr Isaac Kweku Agyane as the vice. Ms Salamey Nyamtakyiwa was elected Secretary, Mr Charles Kweku Brew, Financial Secretary, Samotra Yeboah, Treasurer, and Abdallah Iddrissu Public Relations Officer.

ASP Yiribaare said as student leaders they must also try to do things that would bring peace and harmony at the campus to promote teaching and learning.

He warned against violent demonstration and said that in case of any peaceful demonstration the police must be given five days notice before the date of the event.

He therefore urged the executives to work in accordance with the Law during their term of office and also to do their best to improve upon the achievement of their predecessors for the benefit of the students. Mr. Benjamin Attabra, Winneba District Court magistrate, who swore the executives into office, advised them not to lord the office over the students who voted them into power.

Mr Saeed, the New SRC president appealed to the entire student body to bury their differences now that the election is over and cooperate with the new executive to move the University forward. Dr Cosmos Kofi Mereku, Dean of Students Affairs who chaired the ceremony entreated the executives to work hand-in-hand with the University Authorities to facilitate the improvement of the institution.
