Winneba (C/R), Sept. 4, GNA - The Vice Chancellor of the University of Education, Winneba, Professor Akwasi Asabere-Ameyaw, has advised fresh students to participate in all activities that do not conflict with their beliefs, rules and regulation of the University and the law of the nation.
He said freedom of religion and political beliefs are the rights of students but secret societies, occultism and religious fanatic are absolutely not allowed in the University.
Prof. Asabere-Ameyaw was speaking at the matriculation of 2,707 students made up of 1,795 males and 912 females who have been admitted to study various courses in diploma and degree programmes. He said 890 fresh students of Hallmark University College in Nigeria were also matriculated.
Prof. Asabere-Ameyaw said of the 7,352 applications received, 3,355 made up of 2,237 representing 67 per cent men and 1,118 representing 33 per cent women, were offered admission. Meanwhile, the matriculation saw 2,707 attending.
He said the University had established a Department of Business Education in the Faculty of Social Sciences Education on the Winneba Campus and five more Departments in the Faculty of Science Education. They are the Department of Biology and Environmental Science Education, Department of Chemistry Education, Department of Physics Education, Department of Integrated Science Education and Department of Information Communication Technology Education.
He said graduates of the Sandwich Diploma in Early Childhood Care and Development, who wished to access the on-campus programmes were offered admission at Level 300 to pursue a Post-Diploma Bachelor of Education in Early Childhood Care and Development. Prof. Asabere-Ameyaw enjoined the students to be of good behaviour and obedient to all constituted authorities in the University. Mr C. Y. Acquah-Mensah, Registrar of the University, administered the matriculation oath to the fresh students.
