Winneba, Oct 16, GNA - Authorities of the University of Education, Winneba, have warned they would deal with students caught dealing in drugs, practicing occultism and homosexuality. They appealed to members of the university community to report anyone suspected to be indulging in such things. Professor Jophus Anamuah-Mensah, the Vice-Chancellor, said this at the matriculation of 4,627 fresh students made up of 1,300 women and 3,327 men on Saturday.
The Registrar of the University, Mr Christopher Akwaa-Mensah, administered the matriculation oath.
Prof Anamuah-Mensah said the teaching profession required high professional standards, a code of ethics and respect for the culture and values of the community in which they are practicing. "Occultism and homosexuality are practices that are shunned by the Ghanaian community. Consenting to and practicing occultism and homosexuality cannot make you the type of teacher this country wants and that which we expect to train".
Prof Anamuah-Mensah said the students have come to a university of excellence that is committed to preparing them to contribute to the improvement in education.
He urged them to share their knowledge with children in the village, hamlets and the hard-to-reach places in the country.
