The University of Ghana, Legon, has launched in Accra the third Readers Series Project, a collection of essays reflecting the development of the various disciplines of the University.
The Readers Series, which is the single largest publishing initiative of an African university, is also meant to highlight the University of Ghana's significant contributions to the development of thought and to the analysis of critical issues for Ghanaian and African societies over the last 65 years.
Professor Ernest Aryetey, the Vice Chancellor of the University, commended all those who contributed to the success of the project.
He said the project became necessary as the University attempted to document the different ideas and debates that had influenced various disciplines over the years through the collection of short essays and articles.
"They show the work of Legon academics and their collaborators in various disciplines as they have sought to introduce their research communities and students to new ideas", he said.
He said apart from engaging the University and other academics, the project had also provided the needed linkage among the various departments of the University.
He urged University students and other academicians to take advantage of the Readers Series, as the books contained well researched documents.
Dr Justice S.K. Date-Bah, Chairman of the Council of the University, said the new published series were currently available at the University bookshop, and urged all to get copies.
The 2015 Series include the Arts and Humanities, Social Science, African Studies, Agricultural Sciences, Business Series and Clinical Sciences.
