Kufu (B/A), June 11, GNA - Unilever Ghana Foundation for Education and Development, in collaboration with technical partners, Water Aid and Sene District Assembly, has dug three boreholes for 10 communities in the district.
The boreholes, estimated at GHC 21,410, are sited at Kufu, Gyasipo, Kpombon, Adeabra, Bufruso, Kpakro, Kromwoma, Matukwa, B.K. Akura and Dawuyure, all settler farming communities. Mr. Kwadwo Nyamekye-Marfo, Regional Minister, inaugurated them at Kufu near Kwame-Danso on Wednesday. He appealed to municipal and district assemblies in the region to make the provision of potable drinking water a priority to minimize the outbreak of water-borne diseases.
Mr. Jones Aboronye, presiding member, said water coverage rate in the district stood at about 50 percent in 2007, far below the national coverage of 57.14 percent. He said 44 cases of guinea worm were reported in the district in 2007 and 11 per cent of the cases were recorded in the 10 beneficiary communities.
Nana Yaw Adjei, acting president of Dwan Traditional Council, commended the donors and appealed for the re-construction of the Kwame Danso-Kajaji trunk road.
Nana Adjei said lack of a school block and a clinic was a big problem confronting the beneficiary communities and appealed to the district assembly and the foundation to come to their aid. 11 June 09
