Unemployed jailed eight years for defilement

An unemployed man who was accused of “camping” a 14-year-old girl and defiling her on three occasions in his room at Nungua has been sentenced to eight years imprisonment by an Accra Circuit Court.

Peter Yeboah, charged with defilement, pleaded guilty. The court presided over by Mrs Abena Oppong Adjin-Doku, convicted Yeboah on his own plea.

When the court asked him whether he had something to say, Yeboah said: “I have nothing to say. That is what happened”.

Yeboah told the police that he had sex with the victim on three occasions. Prosecuting Detective Inspector Grace Bandoh told the court that the complainant is a trader who lives with his family including the victim at Nungua.

According to prosecution, Yeboah also lives with his parents at Nungua and their house is closer to that of the complainant.

On October 16, this year, the complainant’s wife who is the victim’s step mother alerted him that Yeboah had secretly “camped” the victim in his house and it was likely Yeboah had sex with the victim.

Detective Inspector Bandoh said the victim’s father who is the complainant rushed to the convict’s house and found him lying naked on the victim.

Prosecution said the victim’s father reported the matter to the Domestic Violence and Victim Support Unit (DOVVSU) where a medical form was issued to enable her to attend hospital. Yeboah was later apprehended and handed over to the Police.
