Union appeal for new lorry park

Kasoa (C/R), July 8, GNA - The Kasoa branch of the Ghana Private Road Transport Union (GPRTU) has called on the Government to provide a bigger lorry station for the fast-developing commercial town. According to Alhaji Muhamadu Adamu, Chairman of the Union, a survey they conducted recently indicated that the number of commercial vehicles operating in the town had increased to about 5,000. This, he said demanded the construction of a larger lorry park to cope with the situation.

The Chairman further called on the Ministry for Roads and Transport to ensure that the contractor on the Malam-Kasoa dual carriage road project created parking places at vantage points between the Ayigbe-Town and Kasoa streach of the road.

Addressing an emergency executive meeting at Kasoa on Thursday, Alhaji Adamu, blamed the heavy traffic between Kasoa Town and Michegani all the time on the lack of a bigger lorry park and parking spaces along the Kasoa-Ayigbe Town route.

Alhaji Adamu advised commercial drivers in the area, particularly trotro drivers who ply between Kasoa and Accra to be extra careful in their duties to avoid preventable road accidents.

Mr Abdul Aziz, Vice Chairman of the Kasoa-Kaneshie branch, asked the Awutu-Effutu-Senya District Assembly and the Ministry of Local Government to facilitate the construction of the station.

Mr Abraham Amonquandoh, first trustee and Mr R. S. Attey, District Secretary of the Union, called on the Ministry to do in its power to thrash the impasse between the Assembly and the Traditional Authorities at Awutu-Ofaankor over the ownership of the new Kasoa Market complex. They pout this would enable the Union to play the role expected of the Union in the operation of the market.
