Nyankomasi-Ahenkro (C/R), Oct 3, GNA- A number of unit committee members in the Assin Attandanso Traditional Area in the Assin District are said to have vacated their posts after realising that their work was voluntary and without salary. The 'Ankobeahene' of the area, Nana Ampah II, said this at the inauguration of a 17-member area council on Friday. Nana Ampah stressed the need for people in such positions to eschew partisanship and work in unity to enhance the socio-economic conditions of their people. The Presiding Member of the Assin District Assembly, Mr Anthony Arthur, inaugurated the council and appealed to members to monitor revenue collection, especially the market tolls. He assured them that half of the revenue collected in the area would be given to the council for development projects. Mr Arthur later inaugurated a similar council at Assin Manso, where he assured the people that the new market at Andoe will soon be completed. The inauguration of the two area councils brings to 10 the number of area councils established in the district.
