University Basic School launches 60th Anniversary

Mr Alfred Cudjoe-Allotey, Headmaster of the University Basic School Legon, in Accra, has called on parents to take active interest in the education of their children so that they would grow to become useful citizens.

He said parents who shirk their responsibility towards their children does not augur well for their upbringing and also contributes to the fallen standards of education in the country.

Mr Cudjoe-Allotey made the call after a float to launch the 60trh Anniversary Celebration of the school.

Activities earmarked for the celebration, which is on the theme “Six Decades of Quality Basic Education: Challenges and Prospects,” are Traditional Day celebration, Games, Inauguration of Cadet Corp, Students Representative Council Week Celebration, Leavers Party and Speech and Prize-Giving Day.

The Headmaster said education is the only legacy one could leave to his or her child to grow as a responsible citizen and everything possible must be done to help achieve the avowed aims.

He urged students to desist from taking short-cuts to success and take their studies seriously which he said is the only way one could succeed in life.

Mrs Christina N.A.A. Armah, Deputy Headmistress said, the school which was established in the year 1955, has turned out many graduates most of them occupying key positions.

She said currently the school is using a projector in the classrooms to enhance effective teaching and learning.

Mrs Armah urged schools which papers were cancelled during the basic education certificate examination to counsel their candidates so that they could re-write the examinations without fear.

She commended the University of Ghana authorities for helping to make the school what it is today.
