Unstable electrical power to normalise soon

Enchi (W/R), Sept. 9, Mr Francis Tawiah-Mensah, Aowin-Suaman District Technical and Commercial Officer of the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) said the unstable electrical power in the Aowin-Suaman District of the Western Region, would soon be normalised.

He said the fault had been detected and work was ongoing to get it rectified.

Mr Tawiah-Mensah told the Ghana News Agency (GNA) in an interview at Enchi on Tuesday that, during the project, some communities were connected to a "bimetal connector", which had no earth and was susceptible to frequent interruptions.

He said the Wassa West, Wassa Amenfi and Aowin districts, relied on a 33 kilovolts transformer and the absence of a sub-station was a contributory factor.

Mr Tawiah-Mensah said the activities of high trees, was a major problem confronting the ECG.

He, however, stressed that a bush clearing exercise was currently underway to rid all electrical cables off fallen trees and other objects.

Mr Tawiah-Mensah added that due to the frequent interruption of electrical power, many residents of Enchi have refused to pay their bills for some time now.

He added that, under the Self Help Electrification Programme (SHEP) phase four, work is ongoing to connect 13 communities to the national electricity grid. 9 Sept. 05
