Asesewa (E/R), Aug. 12, GNA - The Upper Manya Krobo District Assembly has taken delivery of the first consignment of free school uniforms totalling 2,300 for distribution to schools in the area.

Mr Joseph Tetteh Angmor, the District Chief Executive, said this at the second ordinary meeting of the second session of the assembly at Asesewa on Thursday.

He said the uniforms were being sewn in the district to provide employment and income for the people.

Mr Angmor distribution of the uniforms had started and so far Oditchrease D/A, Akumersu Primary, Akontaa, Bormase Hwenya Primary and Esoum-Manya Primary schools were among the first beneficiaries of the uniforms because they are in communities that are more deprived.

He said Akateng Primary and Junior High School also benefited because of their consistent excellent academic performance.

Mr Angmor said the district took delivery of 73,000 exercise books for distribution to all basic schools in the area.

Mr Angmor said the assembly had completed the conversion of a four-unit classroom block into assembly offices at Asesewa and also converted an oil palm factory into offices.

It has also renovated two guest houses at Korlewa, constructed a Revenue Post at Otrokper and bore holes at Dawa Korlewa and Asesewa.

Other projects are street lights at Apimsu and construction of X-Ray laboratory at Asesewa Government Hospital.

Mr Angmor mentioned a major challenge facing the assembly as the absence of large office accommodation.

He said the assembly had therefore begun the preparatory work for the construction of a 48 unit three storey office complex.

Mr Angmor mentioned some roads which had been rehabilitated as the Asesewa-Adwensu, Asesewa-Akrusu, Sekesua-Djamam, Sekesua-Smuer and Sutapong-Odomeji.
