Wa, Aug 04, GNA - The Upper West Regional Directorate of the National Commission for Civic Education (NCCE), with assistance from Action Aid, Ghana, a non-governmental organisation, has embarked on a programme to educate the people on the goals of the Ghana Poverty Reduction Strategy (GPRS) and the Millennium Development Goals and how their objectives could be achieved.

Mr Eric Nawai, the Wa Municipal Director of the NCCE, told newsmen at Wa after the NCCE had held public education forums at Wechiau and Bou in the Wa West District to educate the two communities on objectives of the two policies. Mr Nawai said the Millennium Development Goals (MDG) aimed at reducing hunger and poverty by half by 2015, giving women equal rights and seen as partners of men.

The MDG also aims at reducing death among children due to preventable diseases, improving the welfare and health of mothers and ending the spread of HIV/AIDS among others. Mr Nawai said the achievement of these goals was the responsibility of all the people and the government and urged all to play their role in realising the objectives. He advised the people to desist from acts likely to disturb the peace the country was enjoying.

Mr Saaka Malibunaa, a Field Officer of the NCCE, said the strategy Ghana has adopted to realise these goals include good management of the national economy, job creation, and provision of health and educational facilities.
