Samua (U/W), Dec. 21, GNA - Five members of the Upper West Regional Press Corps were involved in a motor accident while on their way from Wa to cover an assignment at Samua, a farming community in the Jirapa/Lambassie District.

The Journalists were: Mr George Ramsey Benamba of the Ghana News Agency; Mr George Folley of Daily Graphic; Mr Mathew Ayoo of New Times Corporation and Mr Seidu Bamajo and Miss Barbara Yakubu, both of Ghana Broadcasting Corporation (GBC).

They received minor bruises and were treated and discharged at Piina Health Centre in the Jirapa Lambussie District. The Journalists were being conveyed in a Ford pickup being driven by Mr Peter A. Adasi, Upper West Regional Manager of Regional Technology Transfer Centre (RTTC).

The vehicle veered off the road, hit an embankment and somersaulted when another pickup vehicle appeared from the opposite direction on the dusty road and Mr Adasi tried to avoid a head on collision.

It took the occupants about five minute to get out of the vehicle. Ironically, Samua, where the accident occurred, has a big health centre, but there was not single health personnel present to take care of the accident victims, hence their being conveyed to Piina. The Corps commended Madam Rosemond Bukari, the Nurse in charge of Piina Health Centre, and her team for being ever ready.
