The Upper West Regional Police Command has called on the media to exercise restraint and allow the police to carry out proper investigations into the shooting of the Regional Minister, Alhaji Amidu Sulemana last week to avoid tarnishing anybody’s image.
Speaking to the GNA at his office in Wa on Thursday, Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCOP), Kofi Danso Adei-Akyeampong, the Regional Police Commander, lamented over some reports carried by a section of the media regarding the arrest made in connection with the incident without contacting the police.
“It is true the police have picked up some people in connection with the case but that is only based on suspicion and until they have been interrogated properly to establish whether the suspicion is right or wrong, such information cannot be made public”, he noted.
He said this was a robbery case and mentioning names of people who had been picked based on suspicion could be dangerous as such actions could destroy someone’s reputation for life.
DCOP Adei-Akyeampong said he would not rush to put into the public domain any information that was not properly investigated just to gain cheap popularity.
The Regional Police Commander said he would, however, not hesitate to make public any information that had been properly investigated and established to be true.
He urged the media to exercise restraint and wait for such information so that they could properly inform the public.
