Use festivals to plan development projects - Deputy Minister

Gomoa Manso (C/R), Sept 9, GNA - The Deputy Central Regional Minister, Nana Ato Arthur, has called on Chiefs and their communities to use festivals to plan for the socio-economic advancement of their towns. They should use them to take stock of their development efforts to know whether they are progressing instead of merry making. Nana Arthur made the call when he addressed the Chiefs and people of Gomoa Manso to climax their annual Akwambo Festival.

He appealed to the people to initiate development projects to improve their living conditions to attract government support. The Deputy Regional Minister urged parents to make the education of their children a priority to enable them to become good and responsible leaders in future.

He stated that the country's progress depended on the quality of its human resource and expressed concern about indiscipline especially of the youth.

Nana Arthur called on Ghanaians to embrace the National Health Insurance Scheme to enable them have access to quality health care. Nana Aduse Poku, Gomoa District Finance Officer in a speech on behalf of the Chief Executive, Ms Joyce Aidoo, urged the people to unite and cooperate with the government to ensure the speedy development of the town.

She assured the people of the Assembly's support to complete a market project initiated by the people.

It would also help them to convert a JSS workshop into a library. Ms Aidoo stressed on the effects of the HIV/AIDS menace and urged the youth to avoid pre-marital sex, which could lead them into contracting the disease.

A 70-million-cedi Day Care constructed by the Gomoa Manso Mpontu Kuw was commissioned during the festival while the Chief cut the sod for a 600-million-cedi Community Centre.
