Agona Swedru, Feb 6, GNA- The Cape Coast Zonal Office of the Village and Infrastructure Project (VIP) in collaboration with the Agona District Assembly, have organised a four-day management training for market management committee members and stakeholders.
The participants were drawn from Finance and Administration sub-committee of the Agona District Assembly, Area and Unit committees, National Board for Small Scale Industries, Food and Agriculture, Planning Department, security and the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS).
Mr G.B. L. Siilo, Agona District Co-ordinating Director who was giving the opening address urged the revenue collectors and market management committees to discharge their duties in market tolls and tax collection to raise more revenue for District Assemblies. He said that the fact that the government has given them mandate to collect tolls did not give them licence to use unapproved methods to do so.
Mr Siilo noted that people pay tolls and taxes to the District Assemblies and at the same time wanted good returns from such state institutions to improve their living standards.
He urged the market management committees and other stakeholders to be innovative as far as revenue generation is concerned so that the District Assemblies could provide more social amenities to the communities.
Mr Siilo asked the participants to put the training into good use for the benefit of the people and the Agona District Assembly in revenue collection.
Mr Thomas Appiah-Mensah, an Official of Cape Coast Zonal Office of VIP said that the aims and objectives of the training was to strengthen revenue generation.
He noted that it would also equip the participants with advocacy skills and understanding for effective and efficient management of markets.
Mr Appiah-Mensah stressed that the participants would learn policy formulation and market strategic planning skills of District Assemblies.
