Accra, Sept. 16, GNA - Vice President Alhaji Aliu Mahama on Friday extolled Rotary International for remaining committed to its motto: "Service Above Self", by pursuing the noblest mission of achieving world peace and understanding.
He said the Club, which was introduced into Ghana in 1958 had engaged in humanitarian, educational and social development programmes over the years, adding that Rotary Ghana had demonstrated significant strength in the areas of health, education, street children rehabilitation and poverty reduction.
Alhaji Mahama made this known during an interaction with the Governor of the District 9100 of the Club, Madam Laurence Kouassi, who led a delegation to pay a courtesy call on him at the Castle Osu. He expressed satisfaction that the Club was engaged in the eradication of polio, guinea worm and the roll back malaria programme.
Madam Kouassi, who is the Head of the 14 Rotary- member countries in West Africa that constitute the District, announced plans of the international body to organise a West African Project Fair in Accra, from October 13 to October 15 2005 to prepare proposals to seek donor support for humanitarian, health and sanitation projects in the Sub-Region.
